Understanding your insurance coverage for these drugs, and how to get your employer to opt-in for coverage, can be a crucial part of the process. This blog post will guide you through these important aspects.

Weight loss medications, also known as diet pills or anti-obesity drugs, are FDA-approved prescription drugs that assist individuals in losing weight. These medications are typically prescribed for individuals with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 and above if they have a related health condition like high blood pressure or diabetes.

Insurance Coverage for Weight Loss Medications

Insurance coverage for FDA-approved prescription weight loss drugs varies greatly by insurance provider and plan. Some insurance companies cover all or part of the cost, while others may not cover these drugs at all.

If you’re considering prescription weight loss drugs, here are some steps you can take to understand and potentially secure insurance coverage:

1. Consult with Your Doctor. Your doctor can provide information about the potential benefits and risks of weight loss medications and whether they might be a good fit for you.

2. Check Your Insurance Policy. Review your insurance policy or speak with a representative from your insurance company to understand if and how weight loss medications are covered.

3. Explore Alternatives. If your insurance does not cover weight loss medications, or if the out-of-pocket costs are too high, discuss alternative weight loss strategies with your doctor.

Employer Opt-In for Coverage

If your employer-provided insurance doesn’t currently cover weight loss medications, you can take steps to advocate for this coverage:

1. Gather Information. Research the benefits of weight loss medications and gather information about their importance in managing obesity-related health conditions.

2. Make Your Case. Write a letter or request a meeting with your HR representative to discuss the importance of this coverage. Highlight the potential benefits for employee health and productivity.

3. Follow Up. Stay persistent and follow up on your request. Change often takes time, but your advocacy can make a difference.

Several factors can affect whether your insurance will cover weight loss medications. These can include the specific type of medication, your overall health, and the terms of your insurance policy. Always check with your insurance provider to understand your coverage.

Understanding your insurance coverage for FDA-approved weight loss medications is a complex but important step in your weight loss journey. By doing your research, consulting with healthcare professionals, and advocating for coverage with your employer, you can make informed decisions about your health.

Weight Loss for Beginners https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/weight-loss-for-beginners/ https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/weight-loss-for-beginners/#respond Sun, 16 Jul 2023 03:20:05 +0000 https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/?p=721 This blog is for educational purposes only.

There is no better time to start making healthy changes than the present.  We all have our own personal reasons for wanting to lose weight. If you are reading this, I would like to congratulate you for taking the time to read and learn about healthy ways to lose weight.  This blog does not support fad diets or non-fda approved supplements.

Losing weight can be so daunting when there is so much information on-line.  Some of the fundamental things are discussed here.  Some of these steps may seem basic but they are important to help you achieve healthy weight loss.  Making changes to improve your health takes effort and the following will help you get on the right track.

1. Set Goals:

Make goals for your personal weight loss. These goals should be written with an action plan. Remember that no goal is too big when broken down into small attainable parts. Therefore, setting small goals can get you into the momentum of succeeding. The action plan is important because it is the work that needs to be done or it won’t happen.

Some goals like the number on the scale is measurable but remember that this number is not everything. Your body changes as you exercise, lose weight, and build muscle.  The number does not accurately represent your fitness level. Therefore, don’t be discouraged if the number doesn’t change as quickly as you would have liked. Fitness goals can include other things such as your endurance, energy level, and even the way your clothes fit.

Discuss your weight loss goals with your doctor for guidance especially if you have any health condition.

2. Make Changes:

Rather than overhauling your entire diet all at once, begin by making small changes that you can sustain in the long term. Start by adding more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to your meals. Swap sugary drinks for water or unsweetened alternatives. Reduce portion sizes gradually, and practice mindful eating by paying attention to your body’s hunger and fullness cues.

3. Move Your Body:

Movement is important to your body and helps keep your flexibility and lean muscle. Start doing activities you enjoy such as walking, dancing, or joining a fitness class. Starting is always the hardest part but your body will build endurance and you will start reaping the benefits. Schedule your exercise for at least 30 minutes a few times a week. Having a backup plan to exercise at home when you can’t go to the gym or have limited time.

4. Drink Water

Drinking water is vital to our body and will help in your weight loss journey.  Drinking water can help you feel fuller and reduce cravings.  Remind yourself to drink water throughout the day by carrying a water bottle to stay hydrated.

Remember that sugary drinks are not nutritionally beneficial to your body. If taste is what you are looking for, try adding slices of lime or oranges to infuse flavor into your water bottle.  Making this swap can help you control blood sugar, cravings for sweets, and reduce overall calorie intake.

5. Get Enough Sleep:

Getting enough sleep is the easiest step yet so many people struggle with it. Sleep is important for your brain function as well as your metabolism. Prioritizing quality sleep is often overlooked in weight loss efforts. Lack of sleep can disrupt your metabolism and increase cravings for unhealthy foods. Aim for seven to eight hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. Consider drinking less caffeine. Establish a bedtime routine, create a sleep-friendly environment, and avoid electronic devices before bed to promote better sleep.

6. Find Support:

Having a support system can make a significant difference in your weight loss journey. Share your goals with family and friends who can provide encouragement and accountability. Consider joining online communities or support groups where you can connect with others who are also on a weight loss journey. Sharing experiences, tips, and successes can keep you motivated and inspired.

7. Celebrate Progress:

Be kind to yourself and celebrate reaching even small goals. Remember that progress is more important than staying stagnant. You deserve to celebrate your efforts and wins. Keep up the work and remember that it is a journey not a race.

Conclusion:

By taking small, actionable steps and incorporating them into your daily life, you can kickstart your weight loss journey and pave the way for long-term success. Remember to set clear goals, make gradual dietary changes, move your body regularly, stay hydrated, prioritize sleep, seek support, and celebrate your progress. With consistency, determination, and a positive mindset, you’ll be well on your way to achieving your weight loss goals and embracing a healthier lifestyle.

These are the basics of starting on a weight loss journey. Our bodies are complex and physiological changes affect weight loss.  Therefore, some people may still need help from a medical professional for weight loss management.  Dr. Santos is a board certified obesity medicine doctor that helps people achieve their health goals.

Is Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, or Jeuveau Right for You? Find Out Here https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/is-botox-dysport-xeomin-or-jeuveau-right-for-you-find-out-here/ https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/is-botox-dysport-xeomin-or-jeuveau-right-for-you-find-out-here/#respond Sat, 06 May 2023 03:06:24 +0000 https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/?p=615 In recent years, injectable treatments like Botox, Xeomin, Jeuveau, and Dysport have become increasingly popular for reducing the appearance of wrinkles and achieving a more youthful appearance. While these treatments are all similar in nature, there are some differences between them that are worth considering. In this article, we’ll explore each treatment and what you need to know before deciding which one is right for you.

Botox

Botox is perhaps the most well-known injectable treatment for wrinkles. It is made from a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin type A and works by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles to form. Botox is most commonly used to treat wrinkles in the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes (crow’s feet).

The treatment itself is quick and relatively painless. The Botox is injected into the targeted muscles using a small needle, and patients can typically return to their normal activities immediately afterward. Results are usually visible within a few days and can last for up to six months.

Xeomin

Like Botox, Xeomin is made from botulinum toxin type A and works by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles. However, Xeomin is a “naked” injectable, which means that it does not contain any additional additives or proteins. This can make it a good choice for patients who have developed antibodies to other types of injectables.

Xeomin is typically used to treat wrinkles in the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes. The treatment is quick and relatively painless, with patients typically able to return to their normal activities immediately afterward. Results are usually visible within a few days and can last for up to six months.

Jeuveau

Jeuveau is an injectable treatment that is also made from botulinum toxin type A. It works in much the same way as Botox and Xeomin, by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles to form. However, Jeuveau is designed specifically for use in the glabellar lines (the vertical lines between the eyebrows).

The treatment is quick and relatively painless, with patients typically able to return to their normal activities immediately afterward. Results are usually visible within a few days and can last for up to six months.

Dysport

Dysport is another injectable treatment that is made from botulinum toxin type A. It works in much the same way as Botox, Xeomin, and Jeuveau, by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles to form. However, Dysport is a slightly more spread-out injection than Botox and Xeomin.

Dysport is typically used to treat wrinkles in the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes. The treatment is quick and relatively painless, with patients typically able to return to their normal activities immediately afterward. Results are usually visible within a few days and can last for up to six months.

Which treatment is right for you?

When it comes to choosing the right injectable treatment for reducing wrinkles, there are a few factors to consider. These include:

– The location and severity of your wrinkles

– Your personal preferences and comfort level

– Your medical history and any allergies you may have

Your aesthetics doctor can help you determine which treatment is best suited for your individual needs. They will take into account factors like the location and severity of your wrinkles, as well as your personal preferences and medical history, to recommend the best treatment for you.

In conclusion, Botox, Xeomin, Jeuveau, and Dysport are all effective injectable treatments for reducing the appearance of wrinkles and achieving a more youthful appearance. While each treatment is slightly different, they all work by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles to form. By choosing the right treatment and working with a qualified and experienced provider, you can achieve natural-looking results that leave you feeling confident and refreshed.

In addition to injectable treatments, there are other steps you can take to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and maintain a more youthful appearance. These include staying hydrated, eating a healthy diet, avoiding smoking and excessive sun exposure, and using high-quality medical grade skincare products.

Ultimately, the decision to undergo injectable treatments for reducing wrinkles is a personal one that should be made with careful consideration and guidance from an aesthetics doctor. By doing your research and working with a doctor who understands your goals and concerns, you can achieve the natural-looking results you desire and enjoy a more confident, youthful appearance.

Injections For Fast Weight Loss: Get Informed About These Medications https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/injections-for-fast-weight-loss-get-informed-about-these-medications/ https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/injections-for-fast-weight-loss-get-informed-about-these-medications/#respond Sat, 06 May 2023 03:03:20 +0000 https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/?p=612 Social media has been showing a lot of content about injections for fast weight loss after many people noticed the Kardashian sisters drop a significant amount of weight.  It is speculated in the media that they used injections of a medication called Semaglutide. If you’ve been struggling to lose weight through traditional methods such as diet and exercise, you may have heard about the weight loss injection medications. These medications are specifically designed to help people lose weight, and many people are finding success with them. In this article, we’ll explore the benefits of these medications and how combining them with lifestyle changes can lead to even greater success.

The Medications

First, let’s talk about the medications themselves. There are weight loss medications approved by the FDA: Saxenda (Liraglutide), Wegovy (Semaglutide), and Contrave. Saxenda and Wegovy are injectable and work by mimicking the hormone GLP-1, which helps to regulate hunger and promote feelings of fullness. Contrave, on the other hand, works by affecting the areas of the brain that control appetite and cravings.  There are other options available such as phentermine.

These medications have been shown to be effective for weight loss, with some studies showing that people can lose up to 10% of their body weight within the first year of treatment. However, it’s important to note that these medications are not a magic solution for weight loss. They should be used in conjunction with lifestyle changes such as healthy eating and exercise.

In fact, combining medical weight loss medicine with lifestyle changes is often the best way to achieve long-term weight loss success. By making healthy changes to your diet and exercise routine, you can improve your overall health and increase the effectiveness of the weight loss medication.

The Benefits

One of the biggest benefits of medical weight loss medication is that it can help to jumpstart your weight loss journey. If you’ve been struggling to lose weight for a long time, it can be difficult to stay motivated. However, seeing results can help you to stay on track and continue making progress towards your weight loss goals.

Another benefit of medical weight loss medication is that it can help to improve your overall health. Losing weight can reduce your risk of many chronic diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease. By using medication to help you lose weight, you can reduce your risk of these conditions and improve your overall quality of life.

If you’re considering medical weight loss medication, it’s important to speak with your doctor first. They can help you determine whether these medications are right for you and develop a plan that combines medication with lifestyle changes for optimal results.  Keep in mind that not everyone should use these medications because there are some contraindications and possible side effects.  For these reasons, a medical consultation is important.

Things To Consider

Here’s a few important things to know before starting any medications. The contraindications to using some of these weight loss medications include having a history of thyroid cancer and other specific medical conditions. It is important to discuss your personal medical history and family medical history with your doctor. Also note that some of the common side effects reported are nausea and constipation.  Last but definitely not least is the question whether you will gain the weight back once you stop the medication.

In conclusion, weight loss injection medications are a promising new solution for people who have been struggling to lose weight through traditional methods. By combining these medications with healthy lifestyle changes, you can achieve even greater success and improve your overall health. If you’re interested in exploring this option further, speak with your doctor to see if it’s right for you.

Don’t Let Melasma Hold You Back: Expert Advice To Get Rid Of Dark Spots https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/dont-let-melasma-hold-you-back-expert-advice-to-get-rid-of-dark-spots/ https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/dont-let-melasma-hold-you-back-expert-advice-to-get-rid-of-dark-spots/#respond Thu, 04 May 2023 14:12:41 +0000 https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/?p=595 Have you seen dark spots or patches on your face? Melasma is a common condition that frequently affects women and may be related to hormonal changes. The dark spots  appear mostly on the face when melanocytes deposit a lot of melanin. Melasma typically affects women but men can also get areas of hyperpigmentation too. Some causes of melasma are genetic, hormonal changes, medications, and sun exposure. This condition is often referred to as the mask of pregnancy because many women first experience melasma during their pregnancy.

Causes:

  • Hormonal changes
  • Medications
  • Genetic factors
  • Sun exposure

Brown spots can be treated in a variety of ways, including using creams containing ingredients such as hydroquinone, kojic acid, and azelaic acid. Treating with a topical cream first is common but you should be aware that if the cream contains hydroquinone then make sure to use it for two months followed by titrating off for a two month break to avoid causing worsening of the hyperpigmentation. Starting a skincare regimen is also important. There is medical grade skincare available that is supported by science to help specific skin conditions. Following a skincare regimen customized to address brown spots can help give you the even tone skin you want. If you have already tried many drug store products but had no results then it may be time to consider getting help from a medical expert.  There are effective treatments and products that can treat brown spots. These are typically available at aesthetics clinics and dermatology offices.

Medical aesthetic treatments that can help with melasma include microneedling, medical grade chemical peels, and hydrafacial with serums containing brightening ingredients.  Microneedling is a treatment that uses tiny needles to micropuncture the skin which helps stimulate collagen and brighten skin. Medical grade chemical peels are deeper than the peels done by your local esthetician. A medical grade peel can be customized with skin clarifying boosters. One of our favorite medical grade peels is the Perfect Derma Peel which has a skin booster specifically for brown spots. This treatment literally makes you peel significantly leaving the skin bright and beautiful. The peeling process lasts approximately a week but the results are well worth it.

Treatment options:

  • Topical medications containing hydroquinone, kojic acid, azelaic acid
  • Oral medication transaxemic acid
  • Medical grade skincare
  • Microneedling
  • Medical grade chemical peels
  • Lasers

The hydrafacial is another great treatment that cleans, exfoliates, brightents and softens skin. I know its sounds great and feels amazing! You will never settle for a regular facial again. The hydrafacial uses a device that has a wand which suctions out debris and infuses the skin with a variety of serums that are customized to treat wrinkles, dull skin, and brown spots.

Last but definitely not least, let’s mention the use of lasers and other technology.  Some may be very promising but make sure you consult with a professional to avoid worsening the hyperpigmentation. Keep in mind that devices that produce heat can exacerbate your symptoms.

It is important to acknowledge that although Melasma can improve with treatments, it can recur if exposed to triggers such as sun, heat and hormonal changes. It’s crucial to protect yourself from the sun by wearing sunscreen every day and reapplying throughout the day. Avoiding direct sunlight is made easier by wearing hats with a wide brim and consider using a cooling neck fan during hot days.

Let us help you achieve your skin health goals. Book a consultation online to discuss specific treatments for melasma.  We offer medical treatments to address melasma, acne, aging skin and other conditions. Bye-Bye Acne! https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/bye-bye-acne/ https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/bye-bye-acne/#respond Mon, 20 Feb 2023 05:45:04 +0000 https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/?p=203 Acne is a very common skin condition that can have a profound emotional impact and leave scars. There are several factors that contribute to acne including diet and using products containing comedogenic ingredients such as coconut oil. Hormonal changes are also known to affect the occurrence of acne breakouts during puberty, a woman’s menstrual cycle and pregnancy.

Treatment options for acne

There are several options for treating acne but not all are safe or effective. Many over-the- counter products containing benzoyl peroxide are available at drug stores and may be helpful for mild acne. Treatment of moderate to severe acne may include topical and prescription medications such as antibiotics or contraceptive pills. Accutane is a prescription medication used to treat acne but can have severe side effects.

What is an effective and safe way to treat acne?

Safety is of utmost importance when treating a medical condition. There are safe and effective treatments that are available at your physician’s clinic or med spa to address the underlying cause of acne. One good option is starting a consistent medical grade skincare regimen. Medical grade skincare is supported by scientific studies and contains high quality ingredients.

New technology is available to treat mild to severe acne.

The Aviclear laser is a FDA-cleared device that effectively treats acne by using a precise wavelength to target oil glands. The complete treatment consists of only three sessions with minimal discomfort. Scientific studies have shown excellent benefits in clearing the skin and preventing acne scarring.

Non-surgical face lift & neck lift https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/non-surgical-face-lift-neck-lift/ https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/non-surgical-face-lift-neck-lift/#respond Mon, 20 Feb 2023 05:37:57 +0000 https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/?p=202 Have you ever looked in the mirror and wanted some tightening or lifting of your brows, cheeks, or neck?

As we age, we may experience changes such as jowling in our lower cheeks, laxity in our neck, and fine lines and creases around our eyes. These gradual changes become more prominent with time because of multiple factors such as our bodies making less collagen and losing fat volume in our faces.

We all get some skin laxity as we age and the good news is that there are medical aesthetic products and procedures that can slow down and even reverse the signs of aging. There is medical grade skincare that contains ingredients that have scientifically shown to improve skin quality. Aesthetic procedures for skin rejuvenation include non-surgical face and lifts with PDO threads, radiofrequency microneedling, and microneedling that can promote the formation of collagen to tighten skin. These non-surgical, minimally invasive methods have shown effective outcomes.

Non surgical face and neck lifts are ideal for adults that want to reduce skin laxity and rejuvenate their skin. This procedure is done with PDO threads that are absorbable sutures made of polydioxanone that lift the skin immediately and promote collagen development which also improves skin tightness over time. Lifting results are seen immediately after the in-office procedure. There is minimal recovery time compared to surgery and no risks associated with anesthesia. The healing process takes approximately a week for the swelling and bruising to subside. This is one of our favorite rejuvenating procedures that has great results with minimal recovery time which allows you to return to your busy life looking refreshed and rejuvenated.

Benefits of Non-surgical face & neck lifts:

  • Immediate lifting results
  • Stimulate collagen production so results get even better with time
  • Minimal recovery time
  • You won’t look overdone or plastic
  • No large scars
  • No risk of surgery or anesthesia
  • Less expensive than surgery and no anesthesia or hospital bill

At Texas Aesthetics and Wellness, this procedure is done by Dr. Santos, a board certified Doctor with specialty training and experience. We specialize in facial rejuvenation, acne laser treatment, and medical grade skin care. Contact us for a consultation.

Searching for the fountain of youth https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/searching-for-the-fountain-of-youth/ https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/searching-for-the-fountain-of-youth/#respond Mon, 20 Feb 2023 05:28:36 +0000 https://texasaestheticsandwellness.com/?p=201 Have you heard of medical grade skincare?
If you have been looking for the best beauty products that actually work then let me tell you about medical grade skincare. These products are different from the many products crowding the drug store shelves. Medical-grade skincare products are created with high-quality ingredients that have shown good results in scientific studies. They can help prevent and diminish fine lines and wrinkles as well as address other specific skin concerns.

Rejuvenating the skin with safe products that actually work
Defy the effects of time with products that contain retinol, hyaluronic acid and other active ingredients. A product that can deliver an active ingredient with higher potency into the skin to actually improve the skin quality is what we want. These products exist and have shown to rejuvenate aging skin. Some of our favorite skincare lines are Skinbetter Science, ZO SkinHealth, and Epicutis.

Getting clear even skin tone is possible
Many of us have dealt with skin conditions for years that have affected us in very personal ways. After trying many over the counter products and even prescription medications these skin problems can persist. A solution to treating conditions such as acne, melasma, and rosacea is multifactorial. This means it is necessary to combine positive lifestyle changes, addressing underlying medical conditions, and having a consistent medical grade skincare regimen. There are products that address acne and red/brown spots that contain active ingredients that are effective.

What is the difference between regular skincare products and medical grade skincare products?
Medical grade skincare is supported by clinical research and regulated by the FDA. The main differences are in the ingredient quality, the potency of the active components, and the delivery system that allows better skin absorption. While a consultation with a medical skin expert is necessary, these products do not require a prescription.

A consultation with a medical skin expert can help you create a skincare care regimen that is customized for you. Medical grade skincare is available at a dermatologist’s clinic or local Med Spa. Contact us for a consultation.
